Develop Leadership Skills Through UBC DET

A project superintendent at Fine line Construction Co., Timothy Mahoney provides construction solutions for commercial projects in the San Francisco Bay Area from his base in San Ramon. Timothy Mahoney maintains membership to multiple professional organizations, including the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (UBC).

One of the largest building trades unions in North America, the UBC has operated for more than 135 years. As part of its core services for members, the UBC furnishes ongoing training opportunities through the UBC Department of Education and Training (DET).

The UBC founded the DET in 2001 to help its members advance such skills as communication, management, and leadership. For instance, the Journeyman Leader program puts experienced tradesmen in a mentorship role for newer UBC members, and the 5-day Foreman Training Course covers the diverse roles a foreman may fulfill at a worksite. The DET team features 15 full-time staff and approximately 45 part-time instructors, and offers more than 140 training sessions annually.
